Surgery Information and Forms

Thank you for choosing the Gull Lake Animal Hospital for your pet's surgical needs! To ensure your pet's prodecure is as safe as possible, we ask you to follow these instructions:

1. Because your pet's swallowing reflex diminishes during and after administration of anesthesia, we want to minimize the risk of vomiting and aspiration of the vomit into the lungs. Fasting your pet greatly reduces the risk of this complication. Please take up food and water after 9:00 the night before your bring in your pet for his/her procedure.

2. Bring your pet to our hospital between 8:00am and 8:30am the morning of surgery. We will spend about 5 minutes reviewing the surgery consent form and discussing your pet's procedure. This allows us to address any important questions you may have.

3. While your pet is sedated, the doctor will also:

  • Trim nails
  • Express anal glands
  • Check ears, eyes, and nose
  • Listen to heart and lungs
  • Check skin

These services are complimentary at time of surgery.

4. Please confirm your pet's discharge time. Patients required to stay overnight will be available for pick up any time after 9am the day following surgery. Pets allowed to go home the same day after a procedure are usually ready by 5pm. The technician will give you an estimated pick up time when you drop off. You will get a phone call following the procedure after your pet has begun to wake up from the anesthetic.

5. Please take a minute to download and fill out the pre-anesthetic consent form. Bring the completed and signed form with you when you drop your pet off.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure the highest level of safety. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our hospital at (269)629-5560 or e-mail us.

Please remember that payment is required at the time of service.

Thank you!
