Dog Boarding

The Gull Lake Boarding Kennel offers 3 different sized runs to accommodate your dogs. Dogs are kenneled separately (unless they come in together and the owner would like them kept together) and play separately. Each dog gets to run outside in our large backyard area up to four times daily. We offer additional one on one playtime (more information below).

What is required for my dog to stay at your kennel?

The following is required to board at our facility and we recommend that all vaccinations be updated seven to ten days prior to boarding:

  • Rabies

  • DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvo, Parainfluenza)

  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)

  • Influenza

  • Fecal examination

If your dog has not been vaccinated at our hospital, we will need you to bring in proof of vaccinations from your veterinarian at the time of boarding or have a certificate emailed in advance to [email protected]. (Be sure to have “ATTN: Kennel” in subject line)

If your dog is not up-to-date and you don’t have time to get him or her into your regular veterinarian, we will be happy to give any overdue vaccinations prior to the time of boarding.

Dogs are required to be at least 6 months of age and fully house trained.

However Summer, Spring Break, Labor Day Weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are our busiest times and you should plan to make your reservation 4-6 months in advance. Gull Lake Pet Boarding is often full as early as 3 months prior to the actual date. Plan to make your reservation as soon as you schedule your travel plans. We have specific Holiday Boarding policies when scheduling during these busy times.

Pet Feeding

Our Pet Boarding provides a low- residue food for the pets staying with us in the kennel.

If your dog has allergies, is on a special diet, is a “picky” eater or has a sensitive stomach you should bring their own food. Dogs with sensitive stomachs may get loose stools from an abrupt diet change and will benefit from continuing on their own food.

Our Pet Boarding does not provide canned food; if your dog eats canned food, you should bring that with you at the time of boarding. We do sell a wide variety of canned and dry food for dogs and cats, as well if you are in need.

You should let us know when you drop off your dog if (s)he has special dietary needs, food allergies, or other food-related problems so we can take the best possible care of your pet and avoid any situations while in our care.

Please also let us know if it is okay for your dog to receive treats while staying with us.

Pet Medications

One of the benefits of boarding your dog at Gull Lake Animal Hospital & Pet Boarding is we have technicians that assist our Boarding Attendants who are trained to take the best care of your pets and are qualified to give medications and/or injections as needed. In addition, our highly trained Veterinarians are always available should your dog encounter any problems.

We are able to refrigerate insulin or other medications as needed. If your pet takes pills and likes them in a particular treat (a particular favorite is cheese or hot dog pieces), bring it along for us to give to them just as you do at home. Otherwise, most pills are given with peanut butter and a treat.

Please note that there is a medicine administration fee each time medication is administered to your dog. If your dog needs a medication injection, an injection fee will be charged each time the medication is administered.

Things to remember

Just like people, dogs all react differently to new situations. Some dogs love being in the kennel; it’s like a vacation for them; While other dogs may be nervous about the new surroundings, new people, or the other dogs around them. Most dogs lose their initial nervousness within 24 hours of arrival.

Common problems we encounter in dogs during their stay:

  • Diarrhea – This is common in nervous or stressed canines and is easily treated with a short course of medicine if necessary. It is not a condition that is harmful to your pet. There is an additional charge if medicine is required.

  • Loss of Appetite – Some dogs may eat less while boarding. Usually after the first or second day, their appetite returns to normal. If it does not, we may entice them with Savory Sauce mixed into their food at no extra cost.

  • Half Day Stay – To help alleviate concerns of owners, we do offer half day stays for first time boarding clients to evaluate your dog and determine their response to being in the kennel. It often provides a comfort for owners and pets alike. The half day should be scheduled at least ten days prior to the scheduled stay and can be either a morning or afternoon. Please call for more information.
